Faculty
Training:
The SCSU NASA PAIR PI and five Co-I's have
received new training in astrophysics, LabView, and innovative
teaching techniques, that use the
metacognitive tools, the Concept Map, and Vee Diagram. The SCSU
NASA PAIR Co-I for
Outreach received additional training in the use of the StarLab portable
planetarium. PAIR partially funded the PI to attend a workshop on advanced
network applications, which will assist in a planned proposal to NSF to
dramatically expand the SCSU MSET Internet bandwidth and increase
participation in NASA and NSF research and educational initiatives in
astrophysics. Four of
the SCSU NASA PAIR faculty members have attended national meetings for
PAIR related presentations.
Student
Training: A
series of training workshops for the PAIR students included five days of
training in the use of LabView presented by Bart Craft from Microcraft
Corporation, an industry-standard software program.
Additional workshops included an overview of astrophysics.
Presentors included Dr. Walter and Dr. Christina Lacey from USC.
Training in
the use of the StarLab portable planetarium was performed by Cheryl
Zimmerman.
Concept Maps, exemplifying innovative learning methods, were taught by
Dr. Walter. A total of 27 students participated in this training
(15 in year 1 and 12 in year 2). More
detailed information on the training is listed below:
