This workshop is the first activity under a new NSF-funded program awarded to the University of Houston – Downtown (UHD) that includes UHD, SCSU, Medgar Evers College, Norfolk State University and DePaul University. This project is part of a broader collaboration known as the Minority Consortium for Earth and Space Sciences (MUCESS).

The mission of MUCESS is to increase minority participation in the Earth and space sciences. This includes faculty and student research, K-16 education and public outreach.

This workshop introduced students and faculty to high altitude balloon research and education projects. The workshop included training for preparation, calibration and launch of an ozone monitoring instrument and ozone data retrieval and analysis. Participants were also provided with information and demonstrations on student instrument projects.
